Dodge City High School football team helps at Dodge City Days concert – Dodge City, KS – Dodge City Daily Globe

It has become a summer tradition for Dodge City’s boys of fall.

The Dodge City High School football team will take some time out of its summer workouts to give back to a community that has supported the program for so many years. The players will do this by helping set up and tear down the Q97 Dodge City Days Country Concert, which takes place tonight at the Roundup Arena.

”We ask that all players complete football-approved community service projects prior to participating in the football program each year,” said Demon head coach Dave Foster. “We have a few other projects that players assist with in the event their families are out of town on vacation during the concert.”

The work isn’t easy. Setting up for the concert consists of stage construction, lighting and all seating in the arena. The team, which works over the course of two days, is fed and hydrated by the Q97 staff.

But all the hard work will be worth it in the end. It’s events like these that really bring people together.

”This project does help bring the bulk majority of players together, and the work involved does tie them closer together,” said Foster. “I think it is important for them to understand the benefit to others in any type of community service project.”

That camaraderie will come in handy this season as the Demons look to build on last season’s 11-1 sub-state run. The team opens its 2011 season with a Sept. 2 road trip to Wichita to take on the Wichita Southeast Golden Buffaloes. The Demons’ home opener is Sept. 9 against the Wichita Northwest Grizzlies.
