1. Fayetteville Right to Life has scheduled 40 Days for Life vigils from Wednesday, through Nov. 6, from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at local health clinics. The vigils are supposed to be peaceful, prayerful community outreach events, organizers say. Vigils are scheduled for Fayetteville Health Center at 4551 Yadkin Road and Carolina Women’s Clinic at 1919 Gillespie St. For more information, call 677-0147.
2. Sandhills Community College has scheduled Crime Prevention and Safety Awareness Day for Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Law enforcement, firefighters and emergency medical agencies from Moore and surrounding counties will have DWI simulators, give K-9 demonstrations, show off a bomb-disposal robot and ambulance and fire trucks, and give information about gangs, drugs and DWI awareness. The college is at 3395 Airport Road in Pinehurst.
3. The city of Fayetteville is accepting applications for its Citizens’ Academy . People of all ages are wanted. They learn how city services work so they can share the information with their community groups and neighbors, and determine if they want to serve on community boards and commissions. The class meets once a week for seven weeks starting Oct. 4. Classes are held primarily in City Hall, 433 Hay St. To apply, go to ci.fayetteville.nc.us/public_information /citizens_academy.aspx, click “Application,” fill out the form and email it to nwalls@ci.fay.nc.us.
